Our work

How the Foundation works for children in Talensi and Bongo.

Our work rests on five pillars drawn directly from our founding objectives. Together they describe how we intend to restore hope for vulnerable children: by strengthening communities, improving access to care, building evidence, speaking up for children, and working in partnership.

Strengthening community capacity

Founding objectiveStrengthen community capacity to promote the health and wellbeing of children.

Children thrive when the people around them have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to protect their health.

We work with families, caregivers, community health volunteers, and local leaders to build that capacity from within, and with basic schools to make health part of the school day.

Improving access to healthcare and nutrition

Founding objectiveMobilise resources and improve access to healthcare and nutrition for vulnerable children.

Too many children go without basic healthcare and adequate nutrition because of cost, distance, or lack of information.

We mobilise resources and work with primary healthcare facilities to close that gap.

The health issues we focus on

  • Malnutrition
  • Anaemia
  • Malaria
  • Immunisation
  • Water and sanitation
  • Mental health
  • Teenage pregnancy

Research and evidence

Founding objectiveConduct research and generate evidence to improve health outcomes among children.

Good decisions need good evidence.

We conduct and support research on child wellbeing and the inequalities that shape it, so that programmes and policies in Northern Ghana rest on what is actually happening to children.

Advocacy for equitable child health

Founding objectiveAdvocate for equitable child-health policies, programmes, and services.

We speak up for policies, programmes, and services that treat every child fairly, especially those in underserved communities.

Our priorities are child welfare, school health, and environment and sanitation programmes.

Partnerships for sustainable development

Founding objectiveFoster partnerships that advance child health and sustainable community development.

No single organisation can do this alone.

We work alongside the institutions that already serve children in the two districts:

  • Ghana Health Service
  • Catholic Health Service
  • Ghana Education Service
  • Talensi and Bongo District Assemblies
  • Community structures in both districts

First programme

An inter-school health quiz and debate.

Basic schools in Talensi and Bongo compete on everyday health and wellbeing: primary schools in a quiz, junior high schools in a debate. The aim is to improve children's understanding and daily practice of healthy habits.

Organisations and individuals can sponsor prizes or learning materials, or partner on the event.

Before the Foundation was registered, its founding team ran a volunteer-led child-health initiative in these same districts, through the Ghana Health Service, the Catholic Health Service, basic schools, and partner institutions: community education, household visits, school-health activities, and referrals to health facilities.
