ChildWell Plus Foundation is now registered with the Registrar-General's Department as a company limited by guarantee, number CG054920826, dated 24 August 2026. It is a non-profit, non-political, non-partisan, and non-religious organisation based in Bolgatanga, working for the health and wellbeing of vulnerable children in Northern Ghana.

Where it comes from

The Foundation grew out of work that was already under way. In 2021, a team of health professionals, with backgrounds in disease control, health promotion, nutrition, health information, monitoring and evaluation, and nursing, began a volunteer-led child-health initiative in the Talensi and Bongo Districts, through the Ghana Health Service, the Catholic Health Service, basic schools, community systems, and partner institutions.

Working with 15 rural communities, 5 basic schools, and 4 primary healthcare facilities, the initiative reached 5,105 children and caregivers. It made 98 household visits and 161 referrals to health facilities, trained 30 community volunteers, and brought 82 community and opinion leaders into child-health action.

That work taught the team which local institutions need to work together for children's health to improve and last. The Foundation now carries it forward.

Who leads it

The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees:

  • Mr. David Yinbil Sa-Aleong, Chairperson
  • Ms. Mavis Ayamba, Vice Chairperson
  • Mr. Richard Gbandan, Secretary
  • Mr. Maxwell Sapak Tii, Financial Secretary

Their backgrounds, and those of the programme team, are on Our team.

What comes next

The first programme is an inter-school health quiz and debate in December 2026, among basic schools in Talensi and Bongo: a quiz for primary schools and a debate for junior high schools, to improve children's understanding and daily practice of healthy habits. More will follow under the Foundation's five pillars: community capacity, healthcare and nutrition, research and evidence, advocacy, and partnerships.
